Colleen M. Carter, Sketch Pad Art Academy owner and instructor

I began teaching art in 1995 when a group of homeschooling families asked me to teach a drawing class for their children.  Other groups began asking me for instruction, so I taught in various school classrooms, churches, community centers, and the Seattle NorthShore School for the Deaf. After moving to Avon, Indiana, I envisioned a place where I could teach drawing and painting fundamentals and give young artists the chance to grow in their skills and display their art to the community.

That place I envisioned was The Sketch Pad Art Academy. It’s a creatively stimulating, non-competitive environment where students come to weekly classes for instruction and inspiration. My Avon studio is set up to accommodate the creative needs and learning styles of children, teens and adults.
